Getting a New Puppy! - Silver Lining Herbs

“I just got a new puppy and would like to know what herbs I can give him to be as healthy as possible.”

We get questions, just like this, quite often, about what to give puppies. So we thought, “What better way to talk about herbs for puppies than to share our own experiences!

My family and I recently got a new puppy, a mini blue heeler / border collie mix, that we named Ned Pepper (Ned for short).

Ned was weaned early, at only 3 or 4 weeks, as his mother would no longer let the litter nurse. He was on a particularly low-quality brand of dry dog food when I got him. He was also living outside full time, in not the best conditions. I got him at 5 weeks old and immediately started on some better food, but I know that even a great dog food, won’t supply all the nutrition they need. So once a day, in the mornings, I add the 10 Foundation. The Foundation is a great base support for their overall health. With herbs like, Flax Seed as a source of fiber, Psyllium and Slippery Elm to support the digestive tract, and Milk Thistle to maintain the liver and kidneys. These among the other herbs will do a lot to support his development.

I plan to introduce him to the 13 Herbal Wormer in the coming weeks, after his body adjusts to the new food, and everything else he is adjusting to.

As I think back, it has been years (like 15) since I have dealt with raising a puppy and I was quickly reminded how demanding these cute little guys are! I have the nutrition covered, but potty training and teaching my 4 year old daughter and 19 month old son how to behave around Ned, is a different story!

Check back for our next Ned post to see how he is doing.
